Team IDs 5 Possible Routes for Bus Rapid Transit System through Bergen

The Bergen County Department of Planning and Economic Development is working with a consulting firm and NJ Transit on a study that the groups say will determine how and where they could create a bus rapid transit system in Bergen.

According to an nj.com report, the task force has narrowed the possible routes down to five:

• From the Montvale Park and Ride to Port Authority
• From Bergen Community College to the Secaucus Junction
• From Englewood Hospital to the Secaucus Junction
• From the Garden State Plaza to Port Authority
• From the Broadway Bus Terminal in Paterson to the George Washington Bridge Bus Station

According to the Bergen BRT website, the study is meant to propose a solution that would make commuting to both NYC and destinations within the county easier.

“With very limited opportunities to expand the capacity of our highways or rail network and the need to serve new destinations, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is a customer focused, innovative, and effective way to create new mobility options,” the BRT posted on its website.

“The Bergen County BRT Implementation Study will define the vision for tomorrow’s advanced bus service.”

According to nj.com, the five chosen routes are meant to connect transportation hubs and activity centers. The team now plans to study the five routes in order to propose an implementation plan, the report said.
