Wednesday is Last Day to Register for Senate Election

Ridgewood residents can register in person all day Wednesday at the library and Village Hall.

Wednesday marks the deadline for new residents and new voters to register for the special Oct. 16 Senate election between Democrat Cory Booker and Republican Steve Lonegan.

The two, who overwhelmingly won their respective primaries last month, have been sparring since shortly after the death of longtime Senator Frank Lautenberg left one of New Jersey's Senate seats vacant. The winner of the special election will have to defend the office again in 2014.

Turnout was low for the special primary throughout the state, and a mere 9.52 percent in Ridgewood, where voters went for the two front runners, with Booker earning nearly twice the votes of his Republican counterpart.

On Wednesday Ridgewood residents may register last-minute for the election at the Village Clerk's office, on the fifth floor of Village Hall, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or from 4:30 to 9 p.m. in the library lobby.

Residents who will not be able to vote may also request a vote-by-mail application from the clerk's office by calling 201-670-5500 ext. 205. The deadline for the applications is Oct. 9.
