Glen Rock Polling Places to Remain in Schools

Safety concerns had led the district to request a change from the county for the two upcoming fall elections.

A request by Glen Rock Superintendent Paula Valenti to relocate polling places out of borough schools over safety concerns will not be met for the two elections slated for the fall, according to a recent news report.

Valenti had written a letter to the county in July requesting that polling places be moved out of Central, Hamilton, the Middle/High School, and Coleman for the two upcoming fall elections.

The Glen Rock Gazette reported that the county denied the request, saying that while officials understood the safety concerns, a rearrangement of polling places needed to be based on an existing need for redistricting. Wyckoff moved voting out of its schools this year, for example, but officials there did so during a redistricting to more evenly distribute the voting population by district.

Borough Clerk Jacqueline Scalia told the paper that she would continue to explore options to shift voters from the schools for future elections, though the decision is ultimately left to the county board of election.
