Glen Rock Schools Considering Move to Full-Day Kindergarten

District has started a study on the potential move that will likely take two years to complete, report says.

Glen Rock students may be enrolling in a full-day Kindergarten program a few years from now.

According to a NorthJersey.com report, the borough's school district plans to conduct a study into the possibility of switching to a full-day program, and what the implications of that would be.

Superintendent Paula Valenti has started an exploratory committee that she said will take about two years to look into the possibility, the report said. The committee includes teachers, principals, and the district curriculum director, the report said.

According to the report, Glen Rock looked into a switch from half to full-day Kindergarten about eight years ago, but officials say the implementation of the Common Core educational standards and new state exams makes now a good time to reconsider the possibility.

Valenti also said the committee was prompted by a suggestion from a member of the community at an informal “Super Session” meeting she held, the report said.
