Lady Panthers Dominate, Claim State Title

Glen Rock girls soccer team beat Bordentown 4-0 to win the Group 2 state championship on Sunday

There's a new champion to be reckoned with. The Glen Rock girls soccer team was crowned Group 2 state champions at the College of New Jersey Sunday, dominating Bordentown 4-0.

It's the Lady Panthers' first state championship trophy since 2003 and potentially the best season in school history. The only blemish on the 23-win season came against Northern Highlands, considered one of the nation's best teams.

At Ewing, NJ on Sunday, the offense rocketed 18 shots at the Bordentown defense. Grace Taylor sliced two into the back of the net, while Sophie Lederer and Sarah Fiorini each scored one apiece. Per the box score, the defense allowed only three shots on goal from Bordentown.

"We all played amazing," senior captain Sophie Lederer told northjersey.com. "To be able to walk away with this, there's no way you could top this season.''

"We’ve wanted this for four years,” said senior Hannah Petrone, according to The Star-Ledger. "We lost in the sectional final twice (in 2009 and last season) and for some of us we’ve been playing with each other since we were 5 years old, so there was no tomorrow for us. This feels unbelievable, there’s no better way to end the season."
