Ridgewood, Glen Rock Schools Closed Friday Due to Storm

State of emergency declared as heavy snow and bitter-cold temperatures blast the area.

Public schools in Ridgewod and Glen Rock will be closed Friday due to the snowstorm, the two districts announced Thursday evening.

Between 6 and 10 inches of snow and wind chills as low as 15 below zero were expected overnight between Thursday and Friday, with wind gusts of up to 35 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.

Gov. Chris Christie declared a state of emergency Thursday ahead of the expected storm.

The Ridgewood Police Department advised that no backyard garbage or recycling collections would be made Friday morning, and that residents expecting collection should place cans at the curb.

The department also asked that residents refrain from parking on the street or putting Christmas trees out for collection, as plows move through the village.
