Small Changes in 2012-2013 Ridgewood School Calendar

School now on for Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Parents might notice some slight changes to the school calendar in 2012-2013 first approved in April.

First scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 6, the professional development day has shifted to the following day. PKids get a reprieve on Nov. 6; they'll be attending the full school day. The school board voted unanimously for the revision at its June 18 meeting.

Elementary school parent/teacher conferences will be conducted that evening. Instead, the week will be broken up with Nov. 7 becoming the professional development day for all grades.

There are 182 instructional days scheduled for 2012, with 187 required days for teachers. School will open to students on Thursday, Sept. 6. The last day is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26.

Two snow days are build into the calendar. Should more days be needed, the district will gobble up days in the April Recess, starting with Friday, April 12 and moving backward.

The schedule is attached to the right of this article.

What is the Board of Ed doing to increase security at the schools as they host voting booths on Tuesday, November 6th? This is a Presidential Election guys, which means increased car and pedestrian traffic all around the schools, ALL day long. I'm concerned about the children's safety as they walk to school, and enter the building. I'm concerned about securing the school hallways during the day as the Auditoriums will be crowded with voters. The Board of Ed also added November 6th as a parent/teacher conference day??? MORE TRAFFIC. Why can't conferences be on another day? What are the administrators doing ? Please let us know, thank you!

Some school districts don't hold classes on Election Day because of security and traffic concerns. Should we consider doing this in Ridgewood?
