GR Elementary Students to Receive Trimester Report Cards

New report card plan begins next fall and includes kindergartners.

The standard quarterly grading periods for elementary school students in Glen Rock is changing – Director of Curriculum and Instruction Kathleen Regan said students will soon have trimester grading.

Regan told the school board at its June meeting that a committee has been investigating the option for more than a year, hearing what worked and didn't work from 14 "similar" districts.

"We checked with those districts and felt the beginning of the year had a lot of holidays and days off and they [students] lost momentum," Regan said. "The trimester worked to the advantage of giving kids a it more time to settle in during the beginning of the year."

Regan said the plan, more in line with "Common Core Standards," has been communicated with the HSAs. Report cards will be issued in early December, March and the end of June. Kindergarteners will now receive report cards as well.

“It really was in the best interest of the students,” Regan said of the plan.
