NY Giants Select Ridgewood's Johnson as Coach of the Week

Ridgewood took down Kennedy High School last week to open its season 1-0.

After a 27-0 victory of Paterson's Kennedy High School, longtime Ridgewood High School football coach Chuck Johnson has been selected by the New York Giants as their coach of the week.

Junior quarterback Jamal Locke notched one touchdown on a 12-yard score to Cooper Nidds, John Byon blew past Kennedy defenders for a 36-yard touchdown and Young Hoe Ko drilled two field goals. Tim Bonanno sealed the game with a 3-yard run in the 4th quarter.

Bryce Joyner and Anthony Merejo each picked up an interception for the defense. Linebacker James Barnett led all tacklers with 8 takedowns.

Ridgewood plays another Paterson school Friday night at home. The Maroons square off against Eastside at 7 p.m. under the RHS lights.
