Reader Photo: Fifth Grader Wins Spot as GRHS Soccer Coach for a Day

Daniel Neuwirth attends Coleman Elementary School.

Reader John K. Bradley sent the following information and Mary Higgins provided the above photo of a very special young soccer coach and his team:

Game On Glen Rock, as part of its ongoing fund raising efforts, recently held an auction. One of the items auctioned off was the chance to be "Varsity Coach for the Day" of the Glen Rock High School boys varsity soccer team.

The Game on Glen Rock project is near and dear to GRHS soccer, as the field conditions at the lower soccer fields have prevented both the boys and girls varsity soccer teams, which are two of the most successful sports programs in the high school, from practicing on their home field.

The conditions have also severely impacted the teams' opportunities to play home games.

The winner of the auction, Daniel Neuwirth, a fifth grader at Coleman Elementary School attended one of the team's practices as a guest of Coach Cusack and received one of the team's prized, red, custom-made practice jerseys.

Young Daniel also helped Coach Cusack guide the team to a thrilling last second 1-0 overtime victory against Lodi on October 13.

The team gathered for this photo to memorialize Daniel's special day. Daniel is the person with the big grin in the middle of the first row holding the ball.
