Ridgewood Hockey Keeps Winning

Boys basketball team defeated Northern Valley Demarest just before the start of 2012

raised its record to 7-2 on the season after dispatching Fair Lawn, 5-1, on Tuesday in a Big North Gold division battle. The in the Gold division race, only behind Paramus Catholic and Tenafly.

Andrew Seiter scored a pair of goals and Zach Kinkella added a pair of assists in the Gold battle.

The victory over Fair Lawn followed an 8-2 victory over Mahwah on Dec. 29 in the Pepsi Varsity Holiday Classic at the Ice Vault in Wayne.

Peter McGinley had a big game for the Maroons with four goals and one assist as Ridgewood pulled away in the second period with four goals and led 5-1 heading into the third period.

Girls basketball

Ridgewood (4-3) rebounded in the Lady Hawk Hoop Jam in River Dell on Dec. 30. The Lady Maroons defeated River Dell, 42-28, in the fifth place game to defeat the host team.

Meghan Roxas led the way with 17 points for the Lady Maroons while Kelci Smesko and Maggie Carver added eight and seven points respectively.
Ridgewood built a lead heading into the fourth quarter with a 31-16 score.

Boys basketball

After falling just short of defeating Cresskill in the All Groups Holiday Tournament opener, Ridgewood (3-3) needed overtime but defeated host Northern Valley Demarest, 54-52, in the consolation game on Dec. 29.

Nick Simon headed the Ridgewood scoring with 19 points including three beyond the three-point line while Evan Bartlik and Anthony Balboa contributed 15 and nine points respectively in the victory.


Indoor track

The Ridgewood boys and girls 3,200-relay team was dominant at the annual Tom Zaccone Invitations at the Rothman Center, at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Hackensack on Tuesday.

The girls 3,200 team of Caroline Davidson, Kelly Cleary, Emily Fishbein and Hanako Shigenobu took home the top prize by outrunning the Northern Highlands team 10:10.7 to 10:30.5.

On the boys 3,200 relay the Maroons group of Will Ades, Travis Spicer, Levi Jennings and Storm Dublirer brought home gold with a time of 8:36.3, out distancing Hackensack’s time of 8:43.9.

Bowling

Ridgewood took care of Paramus in the lanes at Bowler City in Hackensack as the Maroons dispatched one of their rivals with a clean sweep of 7-0.
Kevin Skettini led the way for the Maroons keglers with scores of 244 and 233 in the Ridgewood victories.
