Sally Jentis Named All-American Lax Player

The senior defender is moving on to the University of Florida

Lacrosse superstar Sally Jentis added another accolade to what was already one of the most impressive resumes at Ridgewood's storied program. The senior received word that she was selected to the All-North Under Armour All-American team on Tuesday.

"When I was told I was on the team it was such an honor and I am so excited to be playing with the best players in the northern area," Jentis said Wednesday morning.

Jentis will joined by three fellow University of Florida recruits, which form what many believe is the top girls lax class in the nation.

However, the star defender and expert of the draw is battling mononucleosis and has missed significant time due to illness in the last month.

She hopes to take the field on July 2 at Towson University's Johnny Unitas Stadium and her mother, filmmaker Caytha, said she's slowly building up strength after a tough month.

"One day at a time," Caytha said. "We'll see how she feels as the games come around."

Jentis has been named by ESPN RISE as one of the nation's top five defenders, ranks as the #16 all-around player and top Garden Stater in the country.

A member of the US Under-19 national team, Jentis has also garnered awards in snowboard, taking home a NASTAR National Silver Medal in 2002 and 2004.

"We are so excited and proud of her as she has worked so hard to get there as it was a goal of hers to make the senior team after she played on the Under Armour New Jersey underclass team after her freshman year," Caytha said.

Ridgewood currently ranks as the top team in the state and had been undefeated before falling to St. Anthony's of New York in early May.

The girls look to hoist up their second Tournament of Champions plaque again in June and will square off against Washington Township on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
