Sports Update: Boys Lacrosse Evens Record

A rundown of recent Ridgewood High School sports news.

After a tough opening day loss to Chatham, the boys lacrosse team evened its record in a solid weekend victory.

Hosting Kinnelon High School April 3, the boys eked out a tough 8-7 win at Maple Park Field. Ridgewood was paced by a balanced offensive attack—three players scored two goals—and goaltender Alex Branton made 17 saves.

Garret Clarke, Andrew Toner and Max Luing all scored twice for the Maroons. With the win, Ridgewood comes in with a 1-1 record. The boys will host Glen Ridge April 7 at 4:15 p.m.

Baseball

After a similar opening day defeat, Ridgewood baseball bounced back with a win to get to 1-1. Playing Paramus High School over the weekend, Ridgewood scratched out a 2-1 win in eight innings April 3.

The win followed a tough 11-4 loss April 1 to Passaic Valley. The boys will play in Paramus again tomorrow at 4 p.m.

Girls lacrosse

With one game under its belt, the girls lacrosse team sits at a comfortable 1-0 record. Playing Yorktown Heights High School April 1, the Maroons exploded for a 20-7 victory at Maple Park Field.

Samantha Cermack led the attackers with nine points—five goals and four assists. Six other Maroons had two goals apiece (Sally Jentis, Allie Bonanno, Kelci Smesko, Samantha Yates, Lindsay Weiner, and Kaitlin Concilio), and Isabel Sipple and Zoe Ferguson tended a solid net in the victory.

The girls hit the road tomorrow for the long trek down to Moorestown High School outside Philadelphia. The April 6 match starts at 11 a.m.
