Glen Rock Resident Starts 'Tool Drive' for Sandy Victims

A Glen Rock resident is helping victims of Superstorm Sandy rebuild by starting up a tool drive in the borough.

According to Bergen County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), which co-sponsored the initiative, Naomi Gamorra collected drills, power saws, lawn tools and money for residents in Little Ferry and Moonachie.

"Ms. Gamorra initiated a Tool Drive in her town of Glen Rock when, as VOAD Volunteer, she encountered and noticed that a significant number of Little Ferry and Moonachie residents have lost their valued tools during Hurricane Sandy," the group said in a media statement. "Many residents are dependent on their tools for a living and many had stored their tools in sheds and garages, which were not covered by FEMA and insurance."

Tools were collected between Mother's Day and Father's Day and was supported by residents, donations from Rotary club members and Glen Rock Hardware.

Rotary members also donated Home Depot gift cards which went towards the purchase of gardening kits, shovels and other lawn tools.  Support for the drive also came from Glen Rock Paint and Hardware, storing and accepting donations.

More than 40 buckets filled with tools were collected.

The best part, Gamorra said, was “How grateful people were, they were just happy to get a call and they felt supported because they got exactly what they wanted and needed.”
