it's precisely the place to talk about legalization. We wouldn't have our police spending time andRead More risking lives, and spending huge sums to take out m j distribution rings, because there wouldn't be any more of them left. This cop is lucky to be alive. What about the next time? and what about the millions spent on enforcing these laws which are barbaric. if an adults prefers m j to more harmful Alchohol, why are our police involved?
Coffeenut April 23, 2014 at 03:16 pm
Chris you are wrong once again. Law is to furnish proof of insurance which I did. The crooked copRead More should not have issued a ticket. And secondly, regarding the cell phone ticket. Why is it ok for cops to endanger lives when they break that law? With no penalty? Ha! Use common sense moron. And FRAZEYP thank you! Finally a voice of reason here besides mine! Whew! People don't understand that this old out-dated law CAUSES crime and violence!
Chris April 23, 2014 at 03:45 pm
Coffeenut, you have quite the temper. Didn't you recently chastise mary nary fior calling names andRead More yet you call me a moron? I guess the cop should have been leafing thru your policy for all the pertinent information. The law calls for an ins ID card - look it up. If you stop breaking the law, perhaps you would not receive tickets. Also, very unlikely a deer ran out in front of your car in broad daylight. I think you were looking at your cell phone or perhaps enjoying what you want legalized. Since you have opened the door to name calling, i think your a coward - it's easy to sit in your anonymous littke corner and spew bitter BS about police officers. I think you should go to that department and complain if you think the police officer is crooked but you won't because you are a coward and a loser - only a tough guy when on the patch with your stupid name "coffeenut". LOL, he's upset with the government taking 65% of his income. I guess that no one realizes that theRead More government/IRS/taxes take at least 65% of the income from "law-abiding" citizens as well.
Dennis Martinez April 22, 2014 at 07:17 am
According to the article the guy is paying $2000 a week or 65% of his income in child support.Read More $104,000 to the ex-spouse a year in child support. Child support is based upon gross income and is not tax deductible. This is a sum far in excess of what the average Joe pays and a good reason not to father kids in NJ. It sounds to me that the law is making so called law abiding citizens criminals.
Jenne April 23, 2014 at 01:05 pm
While it's pretty clear that if Ari can be adjudged $8000/month in child support payments, he ain'tRead More hurting for $300/month in monitoring fees... but for someone who really is down on their luck this would be perpetual debtor prison, as they would build up more debt faster than they could pay it off without a very good job.

There is no doubt when police officers are visible , it would certainly be a deterrent to crime! IRead More agree with placing NJ State Police in high crime areas, I just don't know how well they are equipped to handle crimes other than traffic stops and protection of Gov. Christie! These state police officers although very highly trained, rarely deal with domestic violence, street or bar brawls, burglaries in progress, stabbings and shootings all within an urban environment. I am not trying to demean The NJ State Police but just stating the fact that they lack the experience that an urban police officer has!
Mr. Happy April 23, 2014 at 03:32 pm
Hi Linda - when the State Police are tasked to one of the cities (Newark, Trenton, Camden,Read More Irvington), they go in as a pro-active force, not re-active; that is to say, they won't be engaging in the response to domestics, bar brawls, etc. The mission is to initiate criminal investigations thru contact with potential violators in high crime areas. It works, at least in the short term.

Speedy trial? Define speedy. Charles Manson and company committed the Tate/LaBianca murders inRead More 1969. The trial wasn’t until two years later. It took over a year before Jack Ruby went on trial for shooting Oswald. And the entire nation saw him do that on TV. The infamous Boston Strangler was caught in early 1964 but wasn’t sentenced until 1967. Its only on Law & Order that it goes from commission of the crime to sentencing in an hour.

@John...now I understand what u were stating. Thank you for elaborating. I too get a bit frustratedRead More at the way they chose to word things in the stories they write. However, I do find it quite humorous to read some of the comments made n how upset n defensive some of the ppl get.

So the cops should just let everyone go??? I know there are rules and regs regarding this set forthRead More by the AG. Most jurisdictions are small enough that every pursuit crosses boundary lines.
disgusted April 11, 2014 at 12:47 pm
Suburban cops do have the right to leave their jurisdiction under the right circumstances. HotRead More pursuit under the right circumstances must continue and will continue unless you want total anarchy.

trish.durivage April 14, 2014 at 04:23 pm

That's Great, More officers from the Bergen County PD should be certified ! This way the Presence ofRead More the Officer makes the people at the event feel more comfortable but also lets the officials at the Event know that an crowd Issue's it will be handled by a professional, As well as someone in law enforcement, to up hold the law. [ Or at least we think }
GayReagan88 April 8, 2014 at 10:39 am
Each officer should Carry a pocket bible and the ability to provide judgement and sentencing onRead More site. We would have less sinful parasites; poisonous creatures bred into ignorance by their neglectful parents. Maybe our officers should gain more experience and knowledge than waste their time rotting their minds with sports and other vegetating activities. This town is beyond salvation, I can only hope those with hindsight can absolve themselves through the edifice of catholisim and Christianity. Praise be Jesus, may he strike down all those who worship false prophets such as "Little Wayne" and Glen beck. When the rapture will squeeze the sin and hate out of all our souls, Vishnu will ascend the mountain of time. She will take the form of Kalki and you rapist, democratic, fascist slime.

DD April 8, 2014 at 07:09 pm
Macko, I'm sure we agree, but to clarify my position on this particular story, I think it's exactlyRead More the type of thing the Patch could, and does, excel at. This is in fact "hyper-local" news on which you won't find coverage outside the area. I suspect Ridgewood and Glen Rock residents would be very interested in an assault at a local bank in town. Surprisingly the ensuing discussion in the comments was actually high-minded and based on facts and not emotion.
Macko D April 8, 2014 at 09:54 pm
DD - agreed for sure. More of this local interest news would make the Patch a better medium. I'mRead More rather new at this so I don't know how to give this feedback to the writer, Jessica Mazzola. Thanks for your thoughts and although we will I'm sure disagree at times, I do appreciate your intelligent points.
DD April 8, 2014 at 10:43 pm
Apologies for the multiple deletions (edits aren't a part of the Patch's functionality, which isRead More just as well)... If people don't disagree, in an intelligent and thoughtful manner, then they should be ignored. It's refreshing to see a contributor not resorting to and relying on links and media-fed talking points. Real discussion trumps all of that superficial nonsense. I hope we can make the Patch, and, by extension, real and meaningful discourse, better, by keeping that type of thing out of the equation.

It's a joke. Do comments on the patch have to "relate to the topic?" Is this writtenRead More anywhere?
RB March 29, 2014 at 04:14 pm
DD No, but perhaps it should be. Stay on topic, otherwise what's the point. Post anythingRead More wherever you want. Hey, how about those Knicks!
DD March 29, 2014 at 04:18 pm
As this story is related to major back-ups and there is another story related to major back-ups itRead More would be pretty easy to make the case that the joke (another reminder) is related. If the subject of the the joke was not related to this story, it would not have been funny. As far as your question of "what's the point" it's pretty obvious that there is very little value in comments on the Patch on the whole.
