Bestselling Springsteen Bio Illustrated by South Jersey Photographer

Three of Palmyra resident Frank Stefanko's photos of Bruce Springsteen appear in a revealing new biography about the Boss.

Getting at what drives Bruce Springsteen has never been easy. But, a new biography by author Peter Ames Carlin digs as deep into the Boss’ psyche as any previous book has. Bruce, published Oct. 30 by Simon & Schuster, is already on the New York Times bestseller list. The 494-page book, written with Springsteen’s cooperation, has a South Jersey connection.  Palmyra resident Frank Stefanko shot three of the photos used in the book. Two of the pictures were shot at the former Shellow’s Luncheonette in East Camden in 1978. One shows Springsteen playing pinball as members of the E Street Band watch. The other is a group shot, with the entire band jammed around a booth.  The third photo, shot in 1982, depicts pre-superstardom Springsteen sitting…

Springsteen Pens Obama Support Message Ahead Of Iowa Performance, Ohio Rally

He says Obama forges the best path to an inclusive and fair America.

NORTH JERSEY -- Bruce Springsteen published a staunch defense of the record and promise of President Obama on Wednesday, a day ahead of a campaign rally in the battleground state of Ohio and a performance at Iowa State University. Springsteen, who is set to appear at the Ohio rally with former President Clinton, writes that Obama showed "grit, determination and focus" as he faced "extraordinary" opposition and "economic chaos" left behind by the Bush Administration. "Domestically, that record includes working to increase and expand employment for all, protecting our all important social safety net, passing guaranteed health care for most of our citizens, with important new protections for all of the insured, rescuing the auto industry and …

Yes Linda, I too think Bruce AND Bon should stay home and build the "shore" back up. Send Billy back to Long Island to help with the beaches. And they all should stick to singing....I don't want to hear their political B.S. Obama is horrible.   more ›

Springsteen to Stump for Obama in Ohio, Iowa

For the close race in the states of Ohio and Iowa, New Jersey rockstar, Bruce Springsteen, will take the stage for the Democratic campaign.

Bruce Springsteen will join the campaign trail Thursday for President Obama in Northeast Ohio and Iowa.  The Boss will team up with former President Bill Clinton in Parma, Ohio then head on to Ames, Iowa later on that Thursday for another campaign concert and rally, according to Springsteen's website.  Although, Springsteen previously said he would stay out of the 2012 election, the presidential race in these states is tightening, reported The New York Times.  “His appearance will help with our get-out-the vote effort in these critical swing states, and we are thrilled with his ongoing support,” the Obama-Biden campaign manager, Jim Messina, said in a widely quoted statement. According to a CNN Poll of Polls, Obama only has a 3 percent …

'Bruce Springsteen FAQ: All That's Left to Know About the Boss' hits bookstores Tuesday, Oct. 16

Westfield resident John D. Luerssen grew up listening to the music of Bruce Springsteen, getting his initial introduction on Tremont Avenue courtesy of a friend's older brother. Today, Luerssen, a PSE&G supervisor in Cranford by day, music critic and author by night, releases the paperback Bruce Springsteen FAQ: All That's Left to Know About the Boss, his second foray into the FAQ series. With a list price of $22.99, the book, at 400 pages, takes readers on the journey of a Jersey boy with a guitar and a dream who rose to stardom, gracing the covers of Time and Newsweek simultaneously, yet never forgot his roots. Luerseen, who played in a band during his years at Westfield High School, explained that after having written several cover …

'Big Man' Nephew to join Springsteen, E Street Band Tour

A year after the death of Clarence Clemons, Springsteen signs up Jake Clemons for sax duty with expanded horn section for Wrecking Ball tour.

Then they made the change uptown/ And the Big Man Joined the Band/ From the coastline to the city/All the little pretties raised their hands... When Clarence Clemons died in June, 2011, the "Big Man" credited in Bruce Springsteen's "Tenth Avenue Freezeout" as the final piece that propelled the E Street Band into the spotlight, it was a death in the family for Springsteen, band members and fans around the world. As Springsteen finished "Wrecking Ball", the band's 17th album, to be released March 6, knew he can't replace Clemons, but he and the E Street band will keep it in the family when they take to the stage for the tour this year.  Springsteen will fill the sonic and emotional void left by the man who occupied the corner of the stage to…

There were seven songs that had their tour premiere in Tampa but only one of them was not on Springsteen's planned set list for the show - "Talk To Me." Based on the recording I'm listening to this morning, "Talk To Me" was requested by fans in the crowd with a sign. Regarding the album, Clarence Clemons sax playing is also featured on the song "Wrecking Ball," though it is much less prominent …   more ›

I don't believe that this is true. If anything, he'd hold back thousands of tickets and then drop them on the day of the show -- normal prices -- to thwart the scalpers. I've seen it dozens of times.   more ›
