NJ Transit to Cross-Honor Tickets Due to Storm

Winter weather event expected to bring rain, snow to region on Tuesday.

You know December is just around the corner when stories like this start coming out. As the region prepares for winter while continuing to recover from Sandy, another storm is predicted to hit the area late Monday evening into Tuesday, providing rain and snow and ensuring messy commutes. NJ Transit will cross-honor tickets all day on Tuesday, "enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode-rail, bus or light rail," according to a press release. "For example, customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station. Commuting News: Christie Announces Pulaski Skyway Upgrades

Also, some service changes for today's holiday

It was an overlooked part of his talk at the Elks Lodge this past week, but Gov. Chris Christie mentioned that the New Jersey would be spending $16 billion in state and federal funds on transportation projects over the next five years, a few of which will impact commuters. At the top of the list is the Pulaski Skyway, an important link from the Turnpike to the west and the Holland Tunnel to the east.  The Skyway is in need of major repairs, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.  Other commuting news: Automakers will be required to install new safety features prevent people from falling out of vehicles in rollover accidents, U.S. Transportation Secretary Roy LaHood announced last week. NJ Transit Resumes Regular Schedules Today

Bus commuters are advised to expect delays

NJ Transit trains and buses will resume regular weekday schedules Wednesday. Additionally, Access Link paratransit service will resume normal operations, as will the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail. A small percentage of trains along the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast, Raritan Valley and Morris & Essex lines will not run on Wednesday due to storm-related equipment problems. NJ Transit advises travelers that parking will be limited at many stations due to large snow mounds. Additionally, detours and delays are possible along bus routes due to road conditions.
