Know the Candidates Before Forum

Tonight's candidates' night at Village Hall allows first-hand interaction between public and potential council members.

All four Village Council candidates are set to interact with each other and the public tonight at a forum hosted by the League of Women Voters. Candidates Bernadette Walsh, Thomas Riche, Doug Cronk and Brian Dowd will offer views on four major issues facing Ridgewood before answering questions from the public, as time allows. The four are seeking the seats currently occupied by Mayor David Pfund and Councilman Patrick Mancuso, who opted against running. Registration for the May 11 election concludes tomorrow, so residents not registered must do so at the Village Clerk's Office by 9 p.m. April 20. The forum at Village Hall tonight will run from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and will cover questions on Graydon Pool, the proposed Valley Hospital …

Candidates' Night Draws Near

Four questions for the four candidates at the April 19 forum.

With an election less than a month away, Village Council candidates are preparing for a public discussion next week. The League of Women Voters will host a candidates' night April 19 for the public to meet and listen to Brian Dowd, Doug Cronk, Thomas Riche, and Bernadette Walsh's plans to improve Ridgewood. Appropriately, the four candidates for Village Council will answer four questions on the major issues surrounding the village—the budget, The Valley Hospital's proposed expansion, Graydon Pool, and central business district's status. "It always allows you to make a better decision when you see someone in person," League President Linda McNamara said. The forum at Village Hall will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and is open to the …

Council Candidate Walsh Seeks 5 Independent Voices

Resident Bernadette Walsh discusses bid for Village Council.

After coaching youth soccer, leading local Girl Scouts, serving as Junior Woman's Club president, and volunteering with Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Bernadette Walsh set her sights on her next Ridgewood challenge—Village Council. "It's an interesting progression," she said of her decision to run. "Years after moving here, we're glad because this is a community my husband and I believe in—people working together to support things... My youngest son is in school fulltime, now I can help out with my experience."  She quietly went through the petition process and was publicly confirmed as a candidate last week. Walsh—a 13-year resident, wife and mother—says the council needs independent thinkers. "I'm running by myself, and I think that's best. …

Mr. Delgado - The only secret in your above statement is your full name. And by the way, I fully support any US resident giving political contributions to any candidate they support. Democrat, Republican, Independent whatever it is not our place to judge anyone. And I'll tell you what Ridgewood Moms don't really like, creepy guys on blogs attacking residents anonymously.   more ›

Four Candidates Vie to Replace Pfund and Mancuso

Deadline passes without mayor and councilman offering petitions.

Updated at 4:10 p.m. With the 4 p.m. candidate deadline passed, four residents will officially seek two Village Council seats.  Village Clerk Heather Mailander named four council candidates for the upcoming election. Mayor David Pfund and Councilman Patrick Mancuso opted against retaining their seats. Mailander said today that the following residents are officially certified for the May 11 nonpartisan election. Candidates are listed in alphabetical order: Walsh is currently the president of the Junior Women's Club of Ridgewood. A former councilman, Riche sits on the Planning Board. Dowd and Cronk, the latter a Zoning Board of Adjustment member, are running on a ticket and will appear bracketed on the ballot. In a statement released today, …

'Like-Minded' Cronk and Dowd Seek 'Reenergized' Town

Council candidates Doug Cronk and Brian Dowd talk issues, campaign.

With business backgrounds, children in the school system and "like-minded" plans, Doug Cronk and Brian Down have a "vested interest in town." The two residents, who announced their candidacies for Village Council last week, seek to "align everyone" together and reenergize the town. "There's a lot of lingering issues... and if we're not proactive, we're going to be hit by some big crisis coming down the pike," said Dowd, a resident since 2005. Calling Ridgewood home since 1999, Cronk is active with the Zoning Board, Chamber of Commerce, and A.M. Rotary Club, in addition to being a business owner since 2003. With his business experience in Omega Settlement Services and Dowd's real estate and investment banking background, the pair hopes to …

I know Doug Cronk very well as a Husband, Father and Ridgewood Business Owner. Ridgewood needs a man like Doug who is open to hearing what the residents want and working tirelessly for them to implement the majorities desires. He has great qualities of honesty and integrity. Former Councilman Riche Talks Reelection Bid

Planning Board member Tom Riche says the budget, Graydon Pool and public safety are biggest issues.

Eight years removed from a Village Council seat, former councilman Tom Riche wants to get back in the game. Riche announced his intentions to run for council last week after "lots of people have encouraged me to do it. That's pretty humbling for me." Serving one term from 1998 to 2002, Riche did not seek reelection so he could pursue his own business interests. A Planning Board member from 1996 to 1998, and again while on council from 2000 to 2002, Riche accepted a third appointment in 2008. Mayor David Pfund and Councilman Patrick Mancuso's terms expire this year. Neither has announced their election intentions, but Riche said his feeling is they will not run. "I'm not interested in running against incumbents. These guys have done an OK …
