The Ridgewood school board will draft a resolution pushing for new lobbying efforts in Trenton to overturn superintendent salary caps in place since 2010.
With its hands tied by state regulations, the Ridgewood Board of Education will draft a resolution to lobby for changes in the state salary cap that will either force current superintendent Daniel Fishbein to take a substantial pay cut, or restrict the board in negotiations with other candidates when his contract expires this summer. Board member Michele Lenhard, who proposed and will draft the resolution, said it is intended “to encourage school boards to look further at this issue and advocate on behalf of boards of education, from the standpoint that salary caps definitely impact the boards' ability to seek the best candidate for the superintendent position.” If the Ridgewood school board approves the language of the draft, it will be …

The Ridgewood superintendent was named as one of the state's three top administrators for the 2012-2013 school year by his peers.
Ridgewood Superintendent of Schools Daniel Fishbein was named the 2012-2013 superintendent of the year by his colleagues for the state's northern region, village school board president Sheila Brogan announced Monday night. "It's well deserved," Brogan said at the school board meeting Monday, addressing Fishbein. "You do wonderful things for the district." Fishbein, the superintendent in Ridgewood since 2008, is a longtime resident of the village with five kids in the school system. He previously led the district of Glen Ridge in Essex County, where he was employed for 14 years. He listed several accomplishments during his tenure as schools chief in Ridgewood. "The referendum is a huge one," he said to reporters after the meeting. Other …

The superintendent would face a pay cut of over $60,000 if he renews his contract in Ridgewood after it expires in summer of 2013.
The Ridgewood school board hopes superintendent Daniel Fishbein sticks around after his contract expires in summer of 2013, with school board president Sheila Brogan stating at a recent board meeting that the trustees unanimously feel Fishbein is the man for the job. The feeling appears to be mutual. "I am thankful to the RBOE for their confidence in me," Fishbein said in an e-mail to Patch on May 23. "At this point in my career I plan to stay." During his four-year tenure, policies have been updated, improvements made to teacher evaluations, a successful $48 million referendum nearing completion, along with "excellent" staff and administrators brought on to oversee new curriculum and programs, he said. Should Fishbein, a long-time …

Charlie Reilly, who resigned in November, says BOE newcomer Jim Morgan can't be objective regarding his view on Ridgewood Superintendent Daniel Fishbein's performance and should 'remove himself' from contract discussions.
In a letter to the editor of The Ridgewood News, former Ridgewood school board trustee Charlie Reilly continued his criticism of new member Jim Morgan, this time calling for Morgan to avoid any contract negotiations with Superintendent Daniel Fishbein. In the letter, published Friday, Reilly says Morgan is unable to be "objective" regarding any possible contract extension to Fishbein, whose stay is up at the end of the 2012-2013 school year. "Mr. Morgan’s participation would be a violation of the Code of Ethics for school board members," Reilly wrote. He later added that before taking office in April, Morgan has said Fishbein is not "trustworthy," citing the RHS footbridge disputes. Morgan did not respond to several requests for comment. …
