Carr Wins Big, Joins Calderon, Steuert in GR BOE Victory

Board newcomer Liz Carr leads the pack with 1,800 votes.

Incumbent borough school board members Gene Calderon and Barbara Steuert had little trouble fending off competitors on election day. But it was newcomer Liz Carr who cleaned house as the polls closed Tuesday night. A frequent face at school board meetings over the last decade, the school nurse and mom of two grabbed an unofficial 1,800 votes from borough residents. "I want to thank everyone who supported me," Carr told Patch after the race. "I am so excited to become a trustee and work with the current Board members. I intend to serve all the residents of Glen Rock while trying to ensure that the quality of education and programs are maintained without increased costs. Challengers Look to Take Glen Rock School Board Seats From Incumbents

Three seats are up and five candidates are asking borough residents for their votes on Tuesday when polls open.

Three newcomers to politics are looking to claim open seats on the Glen Rock Board of Education on Tuesday. James Chung, Sean Massaro and Liz Carr are asking for your votes on Tuesday, Nov. 6. Two incumbents, Barbara Steuert and Gene Calderon, are looking to retain their seats. The polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Given that the storm has knocked out power to the vast majority of borough residents, turnout could be lower than was initially expected.
