District going out to bid on the baseball field on Dec. 18; expects to dip into an $800,000 capital fund to pay for a series of upgrades.
Now that its high school athletic field project is pressed against its budget, the Glen Rock school board will have to dip into an emergency capital fund to pay upcoming bills. With a $176,000 change order approved Monday, costs for the referendum portion of the project are at $4.5 million of the budgeted $4.6 million. The district will have to dip into its capital budget to finish up the baseball-related work, according to school board president Rona McNabola. According to state law, any money specifically budgeted to referendum work can not exceed the voter-passed budget figure unless a waiver is granted by the county. The district can pay for projects with its capital budget, however. The baseball field work falls under that category. …

Panthers' first real home game this season will be broadcast live on Saturday, Oct. 20.
For the first time in its brief history, Glen Rock TV will be live broadcasting a borough event. Games might be played on Monday, Oct. 15 if all breaks well, school board member says.
Glen Rock Board of Education Trustee and Operations Committee chair Carlo Cella had good news to report to the public Monday night – the projected opening date of the plodding construction work to modernize the high school athletic fields has been moved up about a week. With contractor Turco Golf moving full speed ahead on the now-$4.2 million project, the laying of the turf at the multi-purpose field could be completed by Saturday. "Our objective is to get boys and girls soccer on that field starting that Monday [Oct. 15.]," Cella said, adding that contingencies like weather might throw off the again revised timeline. "The lower soccer field is not going to be ready in that time-frame," Cella said, remarking it would need to be cordoned …

Athletic teams will have to play away games this fall after delays in construction, officials confirmed.
Glen Rock teams will have to get used to playing on the road this fall – the construction work on the athletic fields will not be completed until after the season has ended, according to the school's athletic conference. "It looks like we will be somewhat delayed and our fall season is in jeopardy," Principal John Arlotta told Patch early Tuesday afternoon. "If so, we will work to move games either away or to some neutral sites." Most of the fall matches scheduled will be played away from Glen Rock, according to a note posted on the New Jersey Interscholastic Conference website. Some soccer games may be hosted on the lower soccer field on a game-by-game basis. JV and freshmen soccer matches may be hosted at other facilities in town, …

Cost to replace unsuitable soil at Glen Rock High School have tallied $800,000 but a meeting next week could see that figure reduced, according to a report.
The Glen Rock school district could be closing in on what it will have to fork over to cover the costs of bad soil found at its multimillion dollar field renovation project at the high school. According to a report in the Glen Rock Gazette, the school board's operations committee will be meeting with contractor Turco Golf on Wed., Aug. 15. and should have a better idea of its financial state on the project. At its July 8 meeting, the district informed the public that "unsuitable" soil was found at the high school sports complex must be removed and replaced for any building to continue construction. The board approved a change order in the amount of $600,000 worth or work already performed, as well as spillover amount of $200,000 for any …

Um, Glenrocker, I didn't quite say that work shouldn't be started now. What I said is that the job shouldn't be done half-assed. If you're going to rebuild the ballfield essentially from scratch, do it right--level the field, grass infield, proper dugouts/and fencing, sprinkler system and a decent sized backstop. And maybe lights, too. Build and maintain it so the field can hold tournaments, …   more ›
