Paula Valenti, an author, principal, college professor and former teacher, was officially hired to lead Glen Rock on Monday night.
The most extensive superintendent search in the history of Glen Rock has unearthed an administrator board members say holds the skills to improve one of the state's highest achieving districts. The board on Monday night introduced Paula Valenti as the next superintendent of schools, nearly a year after David Verducci announced his resignation. Valenti, the current principal of Emerson Jr./Sr. High School, is expected to begin her tenure in the first week of March. She will make $157,500 over the next three years, the highest allowed under state caps. (Her salary for the current 2012-2013 school year is pro-rated.) Twenty applications were received for the top administrative job but according to board president Sheldon Hirschberg, one …

Board still waiting on the executive county superintendent to approve the permanent replacement.
Meet the new Glen Rock chief schools administrator – Dr. Kathleen Regan, Glen Rock's Director of Instruction and Curriculum. Well, for a few weeks anyway. Regan was appointed the acting superintendent of the district Monday night to begin Feb. 9, potentially serving until March 15. Interim Superintendent Raymond Albano's final day is Feb. 8. Albano isn't necessarily leaving. He will receive $120 an hour or up to $12,000 as a consultant to aid in the transition of the new superintendent. Board members hope Regan's tenure as acting schools chief doesn't last too long. They have identified the candidate they want to lead the district full-time. School board president Sheldon Hirschberg said the board has agreed to a contract with the …

Ten months into the search to replace David Verducci, a final candidate has been tapped. The candidate will likely be introduced at a Feb. 4 school board meeting.
The lengthy search to find a new educator to take over for retired superintendent David Verducci appears near a close, Glen Rock school board members said Tuesday. The district has been seeking a full-time chief administrator sinceVerducci announced his early retirement in March. The wait is nearly over, with board members saying a single candidate has emerged from a pack of about 20. The federated HSA was notified Tuesday of the decision. "We are not prepared to announce the name yet because we need to negotiate a contract with that individual and submit it to the county superintendent for approval," board president Sheldon Hirschberg told Patch Tuesday. The district is capped at offering a salary of $157,500 by state law, but …

But there are "good options" available to replace the interim superintendent as the search continues for a permanent replacement, school board president Sheldon Hirschberg says.
Finding a new superintendent in Glen Rock is more urgent than ever with the recent resignation of interim schools chief Raymond Albano. Albano, hired to fill in for the departed David Verducci in April of 2012, was talked as a safety net in the event the search for a permanent candidate went longer than expected. The board has spent close to a year searching for a candidate that offers the smarts, skills and vision to match the high expectations of parents. And now its safety net is gone. A consulting firm hired by the district to help with the search in fall of 2012 thought a candidate might be ready by January. But difficulties with scheduling around the holiday break for board members has pushed the process back. The board will be …

School board to be given a list of six-to-eight candidates to choose from on Oct. 15.
The tenure of Interim Superintendent Ray Albano may not last very long – the school board might be selecting its permanent replacement for retired David Verducci around January, according to a representative of the firm helping with the search. A mix of about 20 current superintendents, principals and other "front office personnel" from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York are in the running, said Jan Furman, of Leadership Advantage LLC. According to Furman, the application deadline for candidates will close Sept. 15 and the school board will then be given a list of six-to-eight candidates that meet their preferred characteristics on Oct. 15. References will have been checked and applications will be vetted, Furman said. The candidates …

Community forum held at GRMS/HS auditorium on Wednesday, June 13.
The Glen Rock Public Schools are asking the community to provide feedback as to what skills and qualifications they'd like to see in the permanent replacement for departing superintendent David Verducci. The community input session will be held on June 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the GRMS/HS auditorium, district officials said. Seton Hall University-based Leadership Advantage Group, hired to help with the search, will be conducting meetings with various stakeholders to elicit expected professional qualifications of prospective candidates. Verducci resigned in March, citing his desire to spend more time with family. The district hired Raymond Albano as an interim superintendent in April. Albano will be making $605 a day and will work three-to-four …

Albano, the interim school chief of Hillsdale, takes over for David Verducci, who announced his retirement in March.
The Glen Rock Board of Education on Monday voted to appoint Raymond Albano as interim superintendent of schools after David Verducci announced his early retirement from the district in March. Albano will serve from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013. He will be paid $605 per day for three or four days each week, Business Administrator Michael Rinderknecht said. "I've known Ray since I started in this business, and I've found the man to be one of the most ethical, decent human beings I've ever met," Verducci said. The school board voted unanimously in favor of hiring Albano. Albano is certainly familiar with the title of interim superintendent. Since retiring as the top schools chief of Old Tappan in 1995, he's been an interim superintendent 16 …

Neighboring district Mahwah is looking for a new chief administrator and say it's gotten 'absolutely nowhere,' blame superintendent caps
A nearby district searching for a new superintendent is “absolutely nowhere," according to its school board president. "The pickings are more than slim," said Mahwah school board president Tricia Shada, according to a report on Mahwah Patch. Mahwah's empty search speaks well to the challenges Glen Rock will soon be facing after its superintendent, David Verducci, announced last week his retirement effective in June. Mahwah Patch reported school officials blame the new superintendent salary cap for limiting candidate applications. The district in the Ramapo mountains can spend $167,500 for a new superintendent, $10,000 more than Glen Rock. Glen Rock Board of Education President Rona McNabola said the district will be starting the …

Other teachers and parents love her. Which is a shame because she is verbally abusive to students and manipulative. Hardly any good reviews on rate my prof - and all with good reason. Another horrible person hired because of a shining resume and stellar accomplishments. Enjoy her wrath.   more ›
