The Ridgewood council didn't want her as a full-time member, Jane Shinozuka said, prompting her resignation.
Second alternate Jane Shinozuka turned in her planning board retirement papers Wednesday morning, leaving the board with two empty seats during a critical time for development issues in Ridgewood. The East Side resident served on the board for nearly three years. Her resignation comes on the heels of full-time member Costantino Suriano announcing his departure. In a conversation with Patch Wednesday night, Shinozuka said she didn't feel the council wanted to give her the full-time perks. So after much deliberation, she resigned. Shinozuka's first term as a board member expired last summer. The Paul Aronsohn-led council majority elected to keep her in tow, but bumped her down from first alternate to second alternate. "The board sets the …

Late endorsement by Aronsohn for fellow council candidates throws wrench into election. Who will you vote for?
The Ridgewood Village Council Candidate’s Debate closed with a split from six separate candidates vying for three seats to a “like-minded” trio in one corner, a battling mayor and planning board upstart in the other, and a fiery budget officer seemingly on the outside looking in. The debate, hosted by the League of Women Voters on Monday night, ended with a last minute call from Councilman Paul Aronsohn to endorse candidates Albert Pucciarelli and Gwenn Hauck. Insiders say Aronsohn’s been cozying up with Hauck, a stay-at-home mom and consummate volunteer, and Pucciarelli, a pilot and lawyer, and the move didn’t exactly come out of left field. At the end of the day, it’s about simple math. To effect the change he says the village needs, …

No candidate with the blessing of Concerned Residents of Ridgewood (CRR) has lost an election.
Three candidates just received what could be a big boost to their election hopes Monday with the endorsement of Concerned Residents of Ridgewood (CRR), a grassroots group wary of Valley Hospital’s expansion aims. According to a statement released Monday night, the organization has endorsed incumbents Mayor Keith Killion, Councilman Paul Aronsohn and newcomer candidate Jane Shinozuka. “Voters must go to the polls on May 8th, and vote for candidates Killion, Shinozuka and Aronsohn, who are the only candidates to consistently, publicly say that ‘Renewal’, as proposed and approved by the Planning Board, was wrong for Ridgewood,” said Pete McKenna, chairman of the organization. According to McKenna, the decision to endorse the trio was made …

17-year resident is a member of the planning board and has been active in schools community
Another member of the planning board is aiming to become one of five members of the Ridgewood Village Council. Jane Shinozuka, a 17-year resident of Ridgewood, announced Friday that she's gunning for a four-year term as a councilwoman. Planning Board Vice Chairman Albert Pucciarelli has also announced his candidacy for one of three open council seats this spring. According to a news release sent Friday, the mother of three has been active in village government, church and school communities in Ridgewood for quite some time. Among her credentials, Shinozuka has been an officer of the BF HSA Executive Board and as a liaison to the Federated HSA Safety Committee in the BF community. She has children at Hawes, BF and RHS. Her husband, Rei …

Why was she marginalized to 2nd alternate in the first place since she had already served as a PB member and thus had experience? And how is this a "personnel matter"? She's not an employee. Whole thing smacks of politics, which is sad. It seems too often to be only about tactics and strategy. We're owed something better by our govt and we need to demand that. Mayor Aronsohn said we were owed …   more ›
