Pair signed copies of Louisa Luisi's children's book, Your Best Coaches, Saturday morning.

Ridgewood High School teacher and children's book author Louisa Luisi wasn't the only baseball fan at Bookends Saturday morning – famed mascot "Mr. Met" joined her in signing copies of her book Your Best Coaches. Run concurrent with the Ridgewood Baseball and Softball Association's (RBSA) annual parade, Luisi donated 10 percent of proceeds to the RBSA.

I'm curious... Was Mr. Met a breech baby? If so, Mommy Met would have died during childbirth.   more ›

Ridgewood Teacher, Author Signing Children's Book at Bookends

Louisa Luisi will be signing copies of "Your Best Coaches" on Saturday.

Ridgewood High School teacher Louisa Luisi will be signing copies of her new children's novel Your Best Coaches on Saturday, Dec. 22 at Bookends. Luisi, a playwright who teaches English and drama at RHS, had the ambitious plan to write a children's story exploring parental values through the game of baseball. She received enough funding through Kickstarter to publish the book, which was illustrated by artist Kika Esteves. "It's really important to talk to kids about being thrown a curve," said Luisi in July. "I think we live in a society where a lot of young kids and teenagers expect a lot and then they don't know how to deal with things when they are thrown a curve." Luisi will be signing copies at 1 p.m.

RHS Teacher's Children's Book Will be Published

The Ridgewood High School teacher Louisa Luisi needed $12,000 in Kickstarter donations to publish her children's book "Your Best Coaches," and she hit her mark.

By the close of the 30-day funding cycle on Kickstarter, teacher and author Louisa Luisi had taken in $12,520, about $500 more than she needed to publish the children's book. "I am blessed that it was funded and overwhelmed by how many backers supported this book," Luisi told Patch Monday. "Being able to move forward is important to me, as I can now establish myself as an author." The 24-page picture book tells the tale of a boy on a baseball team whose best coaches – in life, that is – are his parents.  "The lesson is that if it's the high point in life or the low…
