Malibu Joel Doing Just Fine After Restaurant Closure
Joel Scheinzeit staying busy catering, teaching – and living – following the closure of his popular Oak Street restaurant in 2008.
He's not slaving away on the grill 80 hours a week anymore. But he seems OK with that; Joel Scheinzeit, former owner of Ridgewood's highly-regarded Joel's Malibu Kitchen, has a found a new perspective, according an article in The Record. Since closing the California-inspired kitchen in 2008, Scheinzeit has stayed busy with private catering, teaching cooking classes in Hawthorne, helping the developmentally disabled, and also selling frozen entrees at Super Cellars in Ridgewood. Villagers can purchase his "Coconut Curry Peanut Chicken," "Hawaiian Pork Tenderloin," or "Fettuccini in Silly Sauce with Shrimp" from the cheese shop section of Super Cellars.
