Today Show's Willie Geist to Issue Keynote Address at RHS Library Fundraiser

The village native and TV star will be speaking at the gala held at the Woodcliff Lake Hilton on Jan. 11.

Today Show co-host and Ridgewood native Willie Geist will be issuing the keynote address at the big fundraiser to transform the Ridgewood High School library to a modern "learning commons." Dubbed the 07450 Schools Committee, a group of HSA-connected parents have raised more than $650,000 to demolish the existing 50-year-old high school library and start anew. The project, set to start in June and finish in September, is expected to cost about $900,000. Geist, a 1993 graduate, will be speaking at the gala on Friday, Jan. 11 held at the Woodcliff Lake Hilton. The event ($110 per person or $200 per couple) will feature a live auction for the opportunity to have a commemorative "Wall of Donors" plaque erected by the new library. To get the …

Overhauled, State-of-the-Art Library Envisioned at Ridgewood High

Non-profit group "RHS Learning Commons" is looking to transform the 50-year-old high school library into a 21st century high-tech research center at a cost of $850,000.

A committed group of parents envision turning the outdated Ridgewood High School Library into a high-tech, 21st century space used for research, study and group collaboration. They're now kicking off an ambitious fundraising campaign to quickly begin construction on what is estimated to be an $850,000 project. Though many sections of the high school have been modernized and improved thanks to a recent $48 million referendum, little has changed at the high school library in about 50 years. Roughly 1,700 students use the library each day. I graduated last year. I highly doubt all 1,700 students use the library every day in the firs tplace, let alone to work. That's money that could be spent elsewhere, and I love books and libraries. But this just isn't needed. It'll just become a place where students can socialize with the pretense of doing work.
