Sakura Bana places a very close second, losing by just two votes.
Wasabi narrowly edged competitor Sakura Bana in our latest Readers' Choice poll to claim the title of best sushi restaurant in Ridgewood-Glen Rock. The vote was close – 56 voters said the authentic Japanese sushi restaurant near Somerville School in Ridgewood was best, while 54 cast votes for downtown's Sakura Bana, long considered one of the finest sushi restaurants in North Jersey. Owned by Japanese chef Kazuhiko Takahashi, Wasabi opened at the corner of Ridgewood and South Pleasant Avenues in 2000. It's been a popular offering in the area and boasts some of the best dumplings and sushi around. Kumo and Masago were the next highest vote getters, grabbing 33 and 20, respectively. Ridgewood and Glen Rock frozen yogurt shops duked it out in a close battle for fro-yo supremacy, but neither could match Let's Yo, a new self-serve frozen yogurt franchise in Paramus that took home this week's Readers' Choice award. Let's Yo, which had its grand opening on May 12, carried 72 percent of readers' votes. Ridgewood's Koa Koa (9 percent) and Tasti D-Lite (7 percent) finished second and third, respectively, separated by just three votes. Glen Rock's Jubilate Cafe Corp scored 4 percent of the vote. Long-time Glen Rock store draws over 700 votes in our latest Readers' Choice poll.
Nestled off Harristown Road in Glen Rock, Perry's Florist has been declared the favored flower shop in Ridgewood-Glen Rock, according to our most recent Readers' Choice Poll. Perry's Florist, which is also a garden center, captured 64 percent of the vote. Ridgewood's The Little Flower Shoppe on E. Ridgewood Ave. took home 32 percent of the vote. Nearly 1,100 votes were cast since Monday. Perry's has been in business since 1954 and is operated by the fourth generation of Perry owners. It creates and sells arrangements and baskets for all occasions, holidays and events. Both home-grown and imported blooms are available, and special requests are accepted. Well-regarded Chestnut Deli in Ridgewood was named the best deli in the Ridgewood-Glen Rock area in this week's Readers' Choice poll. With 45 percent of the vote, the deli owned by Billy and Luana Woods bested Wilkes Family Delicatessen on E. Glen Ave, the second-place winner. Chestnut Deli offers a wealth of top sandwich options, does catering and sells the delectable cake pops. Check back on Tuesday for a profile on the Woods gang. Haven't been to Sakura Bana in years (can never find a parking spot) but I must say Sakura in Wyckoff is my FAVORITE sushi restaurant in the area. So fresh & I love the tuna/salmon pizza! Yum!   more ›
