April Break Days Disappearing Following Sandy Closures
If snow is heavy and frequent during the winter, students might kiss goodbye their entire April break.
Update at 8:30 p.m. Monday: The school board unanimously approved the calendar change, meaning Thursday and Friday of April break are school days. Ridgewood school board trustees on Monday are expected to vote on a revised school calendar that will trim at least two days from the scheduled spring break in April. Ridgewood lost seven school days to large-scale power outages during Super Storm Sandy. According to proposed calendar revision, students and teachers will report to school on Thursday, April 11 and Friday, April 12. If snow days force further closures in the winter, more planned vacation days that week will be lopped off counting backwards. The proposed calendar doesn't contain further changes. I suspect that it's because they will not know in February if they will need more days to make up for additional snow days. By April they are pretty sure of the total number of days they will need.   more ›
