Audrey Meyers installed the head of the New Jersey Hospital Association, pressing state hospital leaders to rally against Medicare and Medicaid cuts
Valley Hospital President and CEO Audrey Meyers was installed as the chair of the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA) on Friday, the organization said in a news release. Meyers, who rose through the ranks at Valley after joining as a Planning Associate in 1980, takes over for Thomas A. Biga, of Barnabas Health in Livingston. At the installation in Princeton on Friday, Meyers asked that the other healthcare leaders in the state tell Washington what a "devastating" effect cuts in Medicare and Medicaid would hold. "In 2013 alone, New Jersey's healthcare providers stand to lose $130 million in Medicare funding - on top of $4.5 billion in cuts New Jersey hospitals will sustain under the Affordable Care Act," Meyers said in the release. The project still needs to be approved by the state Health Comissioner
The State Health Planning Board voted 5-1 Tuesday to recommend the Health Commissioner approve Hackensack University Medical Center's plan to revive the former Pascack Valley Hospital—which is currently in use as an ER facility—as a new 128-bed full-service hospital. “It is nicer to be here saying 'yes' to opening a hospital than 'yes' to closing a hospital,” Board Chairperson Judy Donlen said, referring to the 2007 closing of the Pascack Valley Hospital. Still, the board's vote does not mean the hospital has been approved. State Health Commissioner Mary O'Dowd will need to approve the project before it can continue. The board made their vote after listening to public comment from representatives from the Department of Health, HUMC, Valley…
Source says Valley CEO Audrey Meyers will address the council
The Ridgewood Village Council is expected to sign a resolution Tuesday night denying the introduction of an ordinance that would have paved the way for Valley Hospital to double its size in a $750 million expansion effort. At last week's penultimate Valley "H-Zone" hearing, all five village council members were unanimous in rejecting the planning board approved ordinance, one that would have amended the land use section of the Master Plan. The council members argued potential foundation damage to nearby homes, a strain on the village infrastructure, safety concerns for children at neighboring B.F. Middle School, a "flawed" planning board process and a scale inconsistent with the neighborhood, were all strong reasons to vote "no" on the "…

Last minute plea by Valley CEO Audrey Meyers to 'compromise' didn't sway the council, which will vote no to the ordinance next week
All five members of the Ridgewood Village Council were in agreement Tuesday – the proposed $750 million Valley Hospital "Renewal" expansion plan that has pitted resident against resident for five years is "unsound" from a zoning and planning perspective. All five plan to vote down the planning board's "H-Zone" ordinance amendment to the village's Master Plan in the form of a resolution on Nov. 29. It's decision was met with raucous applauds from one side of the room, while supporters of the "Renewal" shuffled out somberly. Can compromise be found? A last ditch attempt from Valley CEO Audrey Meyers to "compromise" on some of the issues was ultimately made in vain. Meyers said Valley would be open to going through the planning board or …

One person is arrested as Ridgewood police call for assistance to control the crowd.
Monday may have been the longest day of the year, but for Ridgewood Planning Board members voting on the Valley Hospital proposal, it felt like the longest night. In a 6-1 vote, the board approved a master plan amendment to allow the Valley Hospital to double its facilities on its existing site. Outside, hundreds of people, unable to get inside, shouted and chanted throughout the meeting, several times delaying the proceedings and resulting in one arrest. With only member, Morgan Hurley, voting against the proposal, the board approved the amendment amid loud boos and applause from those in the auditorium, which was filled to capacity with an overflow crowd outside. "I've listened for three years to experts, [Concerned Residents of …

Thank you, Michael! Valley is to blame for its present circumstances. Ridgewood is not responsible for the poor corporate decisions made by Valley officials years ago, or for the fact that Valley has run out of room....   more ›
