Update: Turkey Vulture Shot Through Back with Arrow
Bird was found in the parking lot of the Holmstead School Tuesday afternoon and rescuers believe the bird will live.
Authorities are attempting to rescue a turkey vulture seen with an arrow through it at the Holmstead School parking lot in Ridgewood Tuesday afternoon. Carol Tyler, of Tyco Animal Control, told Patch at about 7 p.m. the bird was shot through its back with an arrow protruding out its breast. "We're not sure how the arrow wound up in it," Tyler said. "We suspect foul play is involved." The bird was initially discovered at the parking lot of the Holmstead School but is still flying from rooftop to rooftop as of 7 p.m., Carol said. There's a minimum loss of blood, she said, adding that once caught, the turkey vulture will likely be able to be saved by a veterinarian.
