Cyclist Struck in Ridgewood

Incident occurred at the intersection of Grove St. and S. Van Dien Thursday night.

A cyclist suffered minor injuries when he collided with a car Thursday night at the intersection of Grove St. and S. Van Dien Avenue, said.

According to Police Chief John Ward, an adult female from Ridgewood failed to fully stop at the stop sign at S. Van Dien as a group of cyclists were passing west-bound on Grove St.

The first cyclist managed to maneuver around the Honda Pilot but according to Ward, the preceding cyclist locked up his brakes and struck the side of the car. He complained of pain to his wrist but refused medical attention.

The driver received a traffic citation. Police said she may have misjudged the speed of the passing cyclists.

Ward, Ptl. Sean Amoruso, Ptl. Anthony Mormino and Ridgewood EMS responded to the accident.
