Ridgewood Girl Struck by Car Tuesday Afternoon

Middle school student taken to Hackensack University Medical after strike at intersection of S. Van Dien and Hanks avenues.

A Ridgewood girl was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon.

According to Ridgewood Police Chief John Ward, neither the middle-school aged victim nor the driver of the BMW X3 likely saw one another when she was struck at the intersection of South Van Dien and Hanks Avenue at 3:48 p.m.

The juvenile suffered a serious leg injury that is not considered life-threatening, he said.

There were a number of "view obstructions and other factors" that likely led to the accident, according to Ward.

The female driver of the BMW has not been issued any citations, and police said the investigation remains ongoing.
