Downtown Retail/Parking Garage Plan Inching Along

Council nearing vote on having a professional draft a proposal envisioned as the financing mechanism of at least one new parking garage

The Ridgewood Village Council has identified a candidate to draft a request for proposals that could pave the way for the construction of a downtown retail building and parking garages.

On Wednesday night, the council discussed a resolution that if passed will hire Tom Calu LLC for a $9,000 fee. He'll draft a request for proposals to assess the interest developers would have in constructing a two-story retail building at the parcel that's currently a parking lot next to The Gap on E. Ridgewood Ave.

The revenue from a land lease and annual taxes would finance the construction of at least one parking garage, identified as the Hudson Street lot. Should that garage pan out financially, a second garage would be constructed at the corner of Walnut St. and Franklin Ave.
