Ridgewood Field Could See Turf Upgrades

If freeholders say yes, the turf at Maple could be next softer by fall.

Maple Field in Ridgewood may soon be getting a major facelift.

The Bergen County Freeholders are mulling a resolution that will allow the village to clean and soften the field's turf, which officials said is in poor condition.

According to Village Manager Ken Gabbert, the total cost to make repairs will tally about $41,000 but Ridgewood's cost is just over $20,000. The county will provide a matching Open Space grant. The money on Ridgewood's end has already been appropriated through its Open Space fund.

If all goes well, the turf may be repaired by the close of summer.

Councilwoman Bernadette Walsh said there is also interest among sports groups to have permanent lighting installed at the field.
