Ridgewood Youths Eyed in Surge of Car Burglaries

Two Ridgewood teens may be responsible for more than a dozen vehicle thefts, according to Ridgewood Police.

An alert resident on Arcadia Road noticed two people in his parked car just before 2 a.m. According to police, the pair took what they wanted and moved on to a neighbor's vehicle, prompting a call to police. Authorities set up a perimeter and dispatched search dogs. They quickly found the hiding juveniles, police said.

More than a dozen vehicle thefts were reported in the area between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, police told Patch. Some of the property remains missing, according to police.

"We don't know if they're connected" to the rash of vehicle thefts reported in Ridgewood and Washington Township over the last two weeks, Captain Jacqueline Luthcke said.

The juveniles were released to the custody of their parents early Wednesday morning. They have not been charged as of Wednesday afternoon. The investigation remains ongoing.
