Glen Rock HS Latin Club Takes 1st Place at Quizbowl

The Glen Rock High School Latin Club notched a big victory in March, taking first place for the Northern Region in the statewide "Certamen 2013" (Latin Quizbowl) held at Princeton University.

The students also garnered high marks on the National Latin Exam, with 46 awards overall. Andrew Peisner scored a perfect score on Latin II and Donald Zheng was perfect for Prose III.

Mandy Rosengren, Julian Bennett, Zach Forstot, Sarah Grandinetti, Aaron Halpert-Rodis, Ryan Haggerty, Liam Geduldig, Stephanie Sorota, Matthew Wang and Gabrielle Ranieri all took home gold summa cum laude awards.

Kieran Rooney, Erik Dmlija, Lauren Boos, David Merkle, John Piermatteo, Dara Kushnir, Kevin Besser, Kyra Gilbreath, Alice Zhu, Diana Bernechea, anad Caitlin Callahan won silver maxima cum laude awards.

Magna cum laude was earned for Latin II by Samantha Arehart, Joseph Cho, Christina Howie Matthew Issac, Kaitlin Stansel and Benedetta Fontana; for Latin III by Jeremy Winter, David Mendelsohn, and David Panger; for Prose III by Madeline Basirico and Danielle Leibu; and for Poetry IV by Gabrielle Fioravanti. Students who achieved cum laude include Madeleine Doubet and Jessica Giardino for Latin II; Blythe Owen, Rachel Schneider, Sarah D’Alessio, Dan Frissora, Patrick Dowling and Ann Burke for Prose III; Emily Brennan and Maxwell Kushnir for Poetry IV and Miles Richardson for Latin V-VI.
