Man in Pink Tutu at Graydon Receives Verbal Warning From Police

Breast cancer research advocate Bob Carey, clad in a pink tutu on the Graydon diving board, was with a film crew Tuesday, police said.

A man dressed in little but a pink tutu was spotted on the diving board of Tuesday afternoon, according to .

Police Chief John Ward said New York photographer Bob Carey, who runs “The Tutu Project,” was issued a verbal warning for trespassing at the pool with a film crew. The crew, believed to be from a television station, did not have a permit to film in the village, the chief said. Graydon Pool is currently closed to the public.

Carey is known nationally for his unique advocacy for breast cancer research.

The Phoenix native ventures around the country posing for photos in a pink tutu to support his wife Linda, diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003. According to his website, Linda had the disease recur in 2006 and has been undergoing chemotherapy ever since.

“It helped me cope,” he told The New York Daily News in March. “It gave us something to focus on that was fun,” Linda added.

His images have been published in book collections, with proceeds going to breast cancer organizations to develop a cure, he says on his website.

Carey told Wired Magazine he received a commercial assignment from a ballet company nine years ago, which eventually led to his fashion statement.

“My fine art photography has always been about transformation and [I] had an idea to begin a series of me in the tutu,” Carey told the magazine.

Carey could not immediately be reached for comment on Wednesday.
