Police: Candy Deal Goes Bad, Jersey City Man Arrested

Police arrested a 48-year-old Jersey City man after he allegedly took $20 from a juvenile while selling candy for charity.

Police say they arrested a Jersey City man on multiple charges after a candy deal apparently went wrong on March 11. According to police, a village resident reported that her son was in town when a man approached him selling candy for a charity.

The juvenile reportedly told 48-year-old Elijah Wheeler that he "only had $20" when approached and police said Wheeler responded by taking the money and telling the juvenile and friends to take the candy.

Wheeler, police say, was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Hudson County and was later charged with hindering apprehension and theft. Police say Wheeler was remanded to Bergen County Jail, unable to post bail.
