Glen Rock Resident Heading to White House for Sandy Relief Efforts

Bonnie Sirower, a professional fundraiser, having helped countless families in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, is Washington-bound. She'll be honored on Friday with other Rotary members.

A Glen Rock woman who has helped raise almost $20 million in cash and supplies for Hurricane Sandy victims will be honored at the White House next week, northjersey.com reports.

Bonnie Sirower, a Rotary district governor for Bergen, Hudson and Passaic County, might meet President Obama Friday when she'll be honored as one of twelve "Champions of Change" Rotary members across the country.

The professional fundraiser from Glen Rock coordinated large-scale relief efforts and raised $620,000 in cash and $18 million in supplies from places as far away as Turkey, Siberia and Australia, according to the report.

“I felt like I was touched by God and that I had to put together this effort,” she told The Record. “I get joy out of helping people and the Rotary is all about changing lives and helping people.”

Rotary District 7490 is partnering with organization Rebuilding Together Bergen to rebuild two firehouses in Little Ferry, according to the Rotary Club. It will also be rebuilding the Senior Citizens Center and Ambulance Corps buildings in Moonachie, which was hit hard by flood waters during Sandy.
