Ridgewood Residents Tired of 'Eyesore' Empty House

A property that has remained empty for four years has residents asking the township to investigate its future.

Ridgewood residents have expressed concern about an empty house that, tax records say, was sold in March 2011 and has remained unoccupied since.

According to neighbors of the property, located at 153 Lincoln Avenue, the home was sold and construction begun, but nothing has been completed and the property remains empty four years later.

"It is an eyesore in our neighborhood," Lincoln Avenue resident Joan O'Keefe said. "I'm not sure what the owner intends to do with it. I am not sure why the house wasn't just taken down."

Residents are also concerned with a large hole that was dug out in the backyard, but nothing was completed or filled in.

"The hole might be a foundation, but it's a danger. It is not fenced," O'Keefe said.

Other residents say they have called the township to complain or question the future of the property, but that the township has "failed to communicate what the plan is."

"The house cannot stand anymore as it is. The foundation hole is huge. What are they building? Do they need a variance?" O'keefe questioned.
