7-11 Proposed in Ridgewood

Convenience store would take over the Shell gas station on the highway.

If approval comes from the zoning board, a 7-11 will soon replace the Shell station on Franklin Turnpike and Route 17.

The company will be appearing on Jan. 22 requesting variances for setbacks and signs. A combined gas station/convenient store is currently prohibited in the Office Business (OB2) zone; variances allowing its use are also being sought.

According to plans filed with the zoning board, the gas station at 657 Franklin Turnpike would be redeveloped to accommodate at 2,400 sq ft. convenience store.

The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m.

So it would still be a gas station, but with an added convenience store - ala the Exxon with the On The Run that is located just next door (but only accessible via Rt. 17)?

build it; easier to get a tasty Slurpee in the summer

Excellent choice, as long as it is on route 17 and not in the CBD.

Ah, yes. The town with the drug and liquor store combo draws the line at a 7-11. :-)

It's on the highway. I don't see how this is even controversial.
