Designer Closes Ridgewood 'Flagship' Store

Store was the only North Jersey carrier of high-style clothing line.

Yansi Fugel, the East Ridgewood Avenue storefront named for the designer whose work formed the body of its retail operation, closed its doors last week.

“It’s been a blast,” a notice to customers in the shop window reads. “Thank you to our devoted customers for 13 wonderful years.”

Fugel, a high-style women’s clothing designer whose work has been featured in several prominent fashion magazines over the years, including Elle, Bazaar and W, produces multiple seasonal lines that are carried in hundreds stores throughout North America.

Calls to the office of the New York company, which has referred to the Ridgewood location as its “flagship store,” went unanswered Friday afternoon.

Fugel, who resides in Franklin Lakes and has designed for two decades, still has merchandise in tri-state area stores, including in Brooklyn and Connecticut, but according to the company website her work is not available in any other North Jersey locations.
