Ridgewood's Paul B. Whelan, Dead at 79

U.S. Navy veteran Paul B. Whelan has died at the age of 79, according to his obituary.

The Ridgewood resident is survived by his beloved wife Phyllis (nee Down), daughters Patricia Whelan and Diane Piserchia, and son Paul. He also leaves behind six grandchildren. 

Whelan was a retired security analyst for Deutsche Bank in New York and a graduate of St. John's University. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who was active in various civic organizations in the area. Whelan was a past president of Ridgewood senior group "HILT", and a member of the Activities Club of Glen Rock, the Hobbyists of Ridgewood, the County Clare PB&S Association of NY, and the US Submarine Veterans of NJ North Base.

The late Ridgewood resident was an active parishoner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and volunteered at Valley Hospital. His funeral mass will be held Wednesday, June 5 at 10:45 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Visitation hours are Tuesday June 4 between 2 and 4 p.m. and 7 and 9 p.m. at CC Van Emburgh Funeral Home in Ridgewood.
