Car Strikes Fire Hydrant After Motor Vehicle Accident

One woman was taken to the hospital after the Thursday afternoon collision, according to police.

A woman was taken to Valley Hospital for precautionary reasons after she was struck by a vehicle that led to her crashing into a fire hydrant Thursday afternoon.

According to Ridgewood Police Sgt. Glenn Ender, the driver of a Honda Accord was traveling west on Grove Street when another female driver attempted to cross Grove Street from South Van Dien Avenue and the vehicles collided. After the initial collision, the Honda Accord's front end slammed into the fire hydrant.

She did not appear injured in the collision but was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons as she recently had surgery, he said.

The driver of the white Toyota Highlander was issued a citation for failure to stop or yield at an intersection. She was not injured in the accident and her vehicle sustained minor front-end damage.

Ridgewood Water personnel were on scene to repair the hydrant. The Honda Accord was towed from the scene.
