Couple Suffer Head Injuries in Saturday Night Pedestrian Strike, Police Say

Glen Rock man issued citation in accident on East Ridgewood and Walnut

A couple crossing East Ridgewood Avenue near the post office were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center suffering from head wounds after being struck by a vehicle Saturday night, according to police.

Lieutenant Todd Harris of the Ridgewood Police Department said a couple in their 50s were crossing north-south at the Walnut and East Ridgewood Avenue intersection when a vehicle struck the pair.

According to police, the accident, which occurred at around 7:30 p.m., resulted in the summons of a 51-year-old Glen Rock man.

The victims both sustained head injuries, police said, and the male victim also reportedly suffered a knee injury. Both were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center though the severity of injuries was unclear immediately following the accident.

The driver was cited with failing to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk and will face a future date in Ridgewood Municipal Court. Authorities did not immediately release the identity of the accused.
