Detective Finishes Forged Check Investigation; Ramsey Woman Arrested

The woman, 31, is also wanted on a warrant from the Bergen County Superior Court and another New Jersey municipality.

Detective Douglas Henky spent two weeks investigating a case of theft and forgery of one village resident's checks. The victim had told police that she had noticed checks made out to her child care provider.  Henky, who finished the case on Sept. 2, was able to obtain bank surveilance from the victim's bank and positively identified the Village resident's former child care worker of forging checks and stealing, according to the report.

Maista Lionel, 31 of Ramsey, was arrested and charged with three counts of "uttering" forged checks and one count of theft. The Ramsey woman also had an active warrant for theft issued by the West Milford municipal court, along with a warrant from the Bergen County Superior Court. Lionel was remanded to Bergen County Jail.

  • Paramus man arrested on outstanding warrants

On Sept. 2, Patrolman Paul Dinice conducted a motor vehicle stop on Shelton Road and found that the driver of the vehicle, Vincent Defilippo, 23 of Paramus, had outstanding warrants from the Paramus Municipal Court and the Cliffside Park Municipal Court. Defillippo posted bail and was release, pending future court appearances.

  • Ridgewood teen arrested on posession of marijuana

On September 4, Patrolman Raymond Tarino was checking out the Ben Franklin Middle School property at about 10 p.m when he noticed a vehicle that shouldn't have been there. There were two people sitting in the vehicle, so he approached and saw a bag of marijuana on the center console. Kyle Baxter, 18 of Ridgewood, was arrested and charged with posession of marijuana and will be going to Ridgewood Municipal Court. The passenger, a juvenile girl, was released to the custody of her parents.

  • Youth accused of having marijuana at GW

On Sept. 4, Patrolman Rosario Vaccarella observed three youth sitting on a picnic table at George Washington Middle School at about 10:30 at night. The juveniles ran when they saw him, but the patrolman was able to catch one and determined that the youth was in posession of marijuana. He was released to the custody of his parents and the detectives are further investigating the incident.

  • Two youth accused of posession of alcohol

On Sept. 5, Patrolman Rosario Vaccarella responded to a report of a large group of juveniles at the intersection of South Irving Street and Arden Court. Upon arrival, Vaccarella saw a juvenile girl and juvenile boy and noticed that the girl was falling down and couldn't maintain balance. The boy then dropped a knapsack and walked away from it. Vacarella found that both juveniles were drunk and there was alcohol in the bag. The youth were released to their parents and will face a hearing in juvenile court.

The Ridgewood cops remember that school is now in session, and would like to remind drivers too. Their message? Drive more carefully. They'll be monitoring school zones and conducting school zone enforcement throughout the school year to make sure drivers are even more cautious with kids out and about.
