Garage Fire Contained

Fire department extinguishes Eastside Avenue blaze.

Responding to a fire on Eastside Avenue Sunday, the fire department extinguished a garage blaze.

Just before noon the fire department arrived at 284 Eastside Avenue to find a single-car garage on fire, Fire Chief James Bombace said. The one-room structure was separate from the house.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire, removed damaged siding, and extinguished all remaining fire behind the siding.

Bombace said the fire was caused by heated fireplace embers. Placed in a plastic bag inside of a plastic garbage container, the embers ignited causing the fire.
