GRPD Archives: Who Stole the Big Rooster?

And did someone steal Dick Van Dien's horse and buggy the year prior? Or did the horse walk off?

On the night of Jan. 5, 1915, Glen Rock resident Lee Heart called police. There had been a series of burglaries to her home.

According to the police report, Heart claimed "some of her chickens were stolen Thanksgiving Eve and Christmas Eve."

It didn't end there. On Jan. 4, all of the groceries stored in her house, as well as a "big rooster," were stolen.

But does that top the possible animal theft from the year prior?

According to the Jan. 13, 1914 report, Daniel Pesdan, of Paterson, said that "a bay horse and black rubber tire buggy was either stolen or walked away from Dick Van Dien," who lived on High Street in Glen Rock.
