Detectives are investigating the three cases.

Residents weren't the only people hit up by thieves.

According to village police, two Garber Square businesses had been burglarized overnight on Feb. 21. Thieves entered an "unlocked common area of the building" and took cash, police said.

Also on Feb. 21, detectives on a burglary detail spotted Newark residents they suspect may have been canvassing homes near Route 17. The vehicle, police said, suddenly turned from Rt. 17 onto East Saddle River Road.

The driver, identified as Rahmel Johnson, 20, allegedly provided false information. He also had warrants out for his arrest in Newark, police said. Johnson was released on bail.
