Police, DMV Checkpoint Nets 27 Summonses near Wilde Park

A third of which were handed out for seatbelt violations

Sometimes you go to the DMV and — surprise! — sometimes the DMV comes to you.

If the latter occurs, make sure your seatbelt is fastened.

The Glen Rock Police Department and New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicles operated a checkpoint in the borough on Feb. 18 to nab drivers in violation of motor vehicle rules.

A third of summonses issued, according to police statistics released this weekend, were for drivers refusing to buckle up.

An inspection location was set up in the parking lot of Wilde Park on Maple Avenue and police conducted basic vehicle checks in the street. If a vehicle was found to be in violation of a law the driver of the vehicle was asked to pull off the street and into a safe location, according to police.

Glen Rock Police even managed to nab a driver they charged with driving while intoxicated in a school zone.

The operation inspected a total of 39 vehicles and issued 27 summonses worth $3,854 in total fines.

The department used a total of 18 officer-hours to staff the operation and the borough incurred no overtime costs.
